FAQsQuestions we are regularly asked
-
Q.Do I need insurance?
A.Yes, all large items require hire in plant insurance. If you don’t have this, you can purchase this from ourselves at a rate of 20% of the hire price before VAT. This is only required on the large pieces of equipment (it’s usually the road towable equipment as a guide). If you have your own hired in plant we will happily hold a copy on file for the duration of the policy. We do need to see physically evidence of your insurance. All small items, the insurance is included in the price.
-
Q.Do you offer discounts?
A.There are weekend and week rates on the website. If you want to hire for any longer then please get in touch. Please bear in mind we are a small independent family business not a large multi-national. We should always be competitive and if we aren’t please let us know. Additional discount is not provided and half day hires or not offered.
-
Q.Can I pay by cash?
A.No, sorry. We only accept card only payments for hire as it is part of our ID process. The card must be in your name and cannot be expired.
-
Q.Can I pay over the phone and someone else collect?
A.Normally, no. We need you to come into store with your ID and pay using a card so we can see you are who you say you are, signatures match and you have access to a bank account in the same name as your driving licence. We will waive this for customers we have a very established long term relationship with. This also applies if we are delivering equipment to you.
-
Q.Is the day hire for a 24 Hour period?
A.Hire runs from 8am to 8am although you are welcome to return the same day before 4.45pm if you don’t want to store hire equipment overnight. The equipment is reserved for you for the entire day so you can collect after 8am to suit you. Please bear in mind the equipment may well be booked out to another hirer who will be waiting at our counter to collect at 8am next morning. Collecting at 10am doesn’t mean you can keep it until 10am the following day
-
Q.Do you deliver?
A.No, we do not currently offer delivery on any of our equipment.
-
Q.Is my vehicle suitable for collection?
A.If you are towing you need to check the towing capacity of your vehicle against the weight of our hire equipment (this is on the specification section on the relevant hire page). Your vehicle should have a plate usually located in the door shut or sill or you can find it on your log book. Good old google can help you out if needed. Please bear in mind the weight of any trailers which equipment maybe supplied on (allow a ton for a trailer). We will turn away hire if your vehicle do not have the required towing capability (as you are then towing illegally and therefore not insured). If you are unsure about fitting the equipment inside a car or van then look at the specifications on the product page. It’ll give you the height, width, depth and more importantly the weight as you’ll have to lift out when arriving at your destination. We will happily help you load it into your vehicle/trailer/van at this end.

Q.Do I need an account to hire?
A.Anyone can hire from TFM as long as they provide a photocard driving licence and pay in a bank card in the same name. The ID needs to be in a local address (Lincoln or Newark and surrounding areas). If you are unsure, please just ask.
-
Q.Do I need to bring a trailer?
A.Most of the smaller equipment can be put on one of our plant trailers. This is a free of charge service we offer. The diggers all come on trailers as part of the hire. The main exception is our John Deere ride on mower which needs a particularly wide trailer to carry it (larger than a plant trailer). We can hire out our own trailer for this mower but it is at additional cost as we use it for delivering feed and bedding as well as hiring out as a 3.5 ton flatbed on its own.
-
Q.What fuel does the hire equipment need?
A.The larger equipment, like the diggers, takes white diesel. Smaller items will either use unleaded or 2 stroke mix. Just ask on collection to confirm or contact our friendly team.
